教材插图是思想文化的载体,对学生性别观的塑造具有潜移默化的影响。本研究通过采用内容分析法,从两性数量频次、职业角色、角色行为、杰出人物四个维度对人教版2007年版(简称“旧教材”)和2019年版(简称“新教材”)高中英语必修教材插图性别刻板印象进行了比较分析。研究发现两版教材插图在性别分布上总体较好,但均存在一定性别刻板印象的现象,主要表现在:男性插图数量和频次均多于女性;男性职业种类、社会经济地位高于女性;职业行为存在“男主外、女主内”的现象;男性杰出人物数量远多于女性,且职业社会地位和知名度高。最后提出了减少高中英语教材插图性别刻板印象的建议。
Abstract:The textbook illustration is the carrier of ideology and culture, which exerts a profound impact on shaping students' gender conceptions. By adopting content analysis method, this study systematically analyzes the illustration gender stereotypes of the 2007 edition(the “old edition”) and 2019 edition(the “new edition”) of Senior High School English textbooks published by People's Education Press(PEP) through four dimensions: gender frequency, occupation, behavior, and celebrities. The results indicate that the gender distribution of illustrations in the two editions is generally appropriate, but gender stereotypes still remain in the textbooks to some extent. Specifically, the quantity and frequency of male illustrations are higher than those of female; male occupation type and socioeconomic status are superior to female's; male activities are held mostly outdoors, while female activities indoors. The number of male celebrities is far more than female counterparts, and their professional social status and popularity are superior to female celebrities. Finally, some suggestions about reducing gender stereotype are proposed.
